From what I have seen and gathered from others this is going to be something like a Halo/Mass Effect/Borderlands mix.

Obviously the overall theme draws a lot of comparisons to Halo. The massive sphere that is supposed to be some kind of guardian is very similar to the halo rings.

It seems there will be the FPS-RPG element like Borderlands with classes, levels, and weapons customization. Then, there's the Traveler. A visitor from a distant place to a post-apocalyptic world filled with a lot of shit that wants to kill you. The visitor is seen as some kind of savior. Draws parallels to the vault hunter.

Also, there could be a small scale MMO element thrown in. Nothing like WOW, but think of something like a group of a dozen players getting together and defeating a huge boss. Bungie did throw around the word "Raid", so take that into consideration. Bungie said there will NOT be a subscription service, though.

Then, there will be the ability to travel to different planets and explore an open environment like Mass Effect. Hopefully the character development and dialogue choices are created in this style.

This is a VERY ambitious project. There are very few companies with the funding and experience to pull off a game like this. However, it's Bungie with the financial backing of Activation, so there's hope.

This will either be a massive achievement that will change the gaming world, or a fucking bomb of epic proportions like Diablo 3 or SW:TOR

It is also being reported to being released on current AND next generation consoles, meaning PS4/Xbox720 I assume. Also, the PC will be getting this game, too.

was gonna post up some shit on this game, but i got lazy. apparently giantbomb got to sit in with bungie and they gave him some art and stuff to look at; gave him some of the core info on the project. vid is here (LONG):

i think it's kinda lame how bungie is having players "create your own story" (since they can't write worth shit) but this does sound like a really cool project. bungie keeps saying it isn't an MMO but it can still be considered one since players will be dropping in and out of this "world" they are creating. there is no lobby/matchmaking system but apparently there will be some sort of competitive modes to go along with it (like Borderlands arena etc). hopefully this shit ends up being amazing because some of the art and music samples are simply stunning, but we've been fooled before.

I am curious as to how they're going configure the online option without any kind of lobby or matchmaking system. They're not calling it an MMO, but they definitely talked about random encounters with other player and "teaming up" with players in the game.

I wouldn't really have a problem with his being an MMO. But, they've said that it's not going to subscription based. That won't work. There's no way they'll recoup the money unless it's through micro transactions or shit loads of DLC, which always get ruined by hackers/spammers. Probably the reason why I don't play MMOs. Because when real money is involved, people are faggots. Also, if I'm going to buy this for my Xbox, fuck paying for two subscriptions(Gold and Destiny).

I don't mind the "create your own story" if it's similar to something like Mass Effect or KOTOR. A game with a story lines, but multiple ways of achieving the end game. Hell, maybe it'll be like EVE or DayZ. The players create whatever they want. I doubt it though.

Looks like halo. Poor bungie, they should just stick to making halo games

No, they shouldn't. Their efforts to continue their flagship franchise have all fallen short. Halo is 343's game now...

Working on a new project was definitely the right thing to do. The themes of Destiny are similar to Halo's, but that's about it.

good to see bungie able to move away from microsoft/xbox only development. i'd like it even better if it was pc too though...

their appeal may have faded since halo, but this is still one of the great remaining game studios of our time. i hope this game is as amazing as it looks.

I'm fairly sure I heard it was going to be available on the PC, too.
