View Full Version : Suppressed SBR Build Thread

Well, I think it's safe to say that at least for the time being I've switched 100% off of cars and started really playing with firearms.

I've had kind of a dream AR build on my mind for a while, and recently I put down the parts on my list. Of course once they went on the list, I started ordering stuff.

As of now, I have a Revocable Living Trust in place so I can file for my SBR tax stamp with the ATF, and later for my suppressor.

Here's what I've come up with as per a parts list for this build:

- Seekins Precision SP223 Billet Lower
- Orion Arms Laser Etching on Lower
- PSA Takedown & Pivot Detent Springs, Selector Spring, Magazine Catch Spring, Takedown & Pivot Pin Detents, Selector Detent, Buffer Retainer, & Buffer Retainer Spring
- Noveske Pivot & Takedown Pins
- PSA Mil-Spec Buffer Tube & Castle Nut
- MagPul ASAP Sling Mount
- JP Tuned Extra Power Carbine Buffer Spring
- Spikes Tactical ST-T2 Buffer
- MagPul MIAD Grip
- MagPul Mil-Spec CTR Stock
- Geissele SSA Trigger Group (Changed from SSA-E)
- Seekins Billet Mag Release Button
- Norgon Ambi Magazine Release
- B.A.D. Ambi Selector Switch (Changed from 45* version)
- Spikes Punisher Ejection Port Cover
- Seekins Precision IRMT Billet Upper Receiver
- Seekins Precision BAR Rail - 9” (Changed from MCSR V2 Key Mod Rail)
- Young Manufacturing National Match F/A Bolt Carrier Group
- Rainier Arms Raptor Charging Handle
- Rainier Arms Ultra Match 10.5" Barrel - .223 Wylde, 1:8 Twist (Changed from Noveske 10.2" 300BLK Barrel)
- Rainier Arms Match Grade Low-Profile Gas Block
- Stainless Steel Carbine Gas Tube
- AAC 5.56mm Blackout 51T Flash Hider (Changed from 7.62mm version)
- AAC M4-2000 Rifle Suppressor (Changed from 762-SDN-6)
- A.R.M.S. 40L & 40L-F Folding Sights
- Aimpoint Micro H-1
- Fortis Manufacturing Aimpoint Micro Mount
- Tango Down IO Cover for Aimpoint

I'll throw up pics, etc as parts come in. Should be a great build!

EDIT - 28AUG13 List updated to reflected parts changes and acquired parts. Parts highlighted in green have been acquired, while parts in red have not. Parts that are bold have been changed, and the original intended part listed in parenthesis after.

sick man i think having a suppressed rifle would be awesome! no idea why but it is!

Yeah man I'm pretty stoked on it. One of my friends recently told me "you have a hell of a collection in your safe, but it's time to start collecting some stamps." I'll have two once I go through the process for the SBR and Suppressor.

Anyway, a couple pics as promised. Lower showed up yesterday!

Yummy Seekins Precision goodness!

I also got the in-stock notification from Stonefire Arms for the upper receiver, so I went ahead and ordered that tonight. Another $300 in I go...

Upper came in today. Seekins IRMT-R billet upper receiver. This thing is awesome in that it has the mounts for the rail built into it, making for a true monolithic design that retains modular takedown capability. It also uses its own proprietary barrel nut that doesn't require a special wrench. So slick!

The SBR project took a break for a little while, but as of this week I sent the lower to Orion Arms to have it engraved with my Trust info. I also received all paperwork from the ATF to register it.

More to come soon.

So I have a little time today. Went back and updated the original parts listing to reflect the current direction of this build. My goals slightly changed.

This is still a suppressed SBR build, but I've decided to chamber it in .223 Wylde instead of 7.62mm. I'm doing this first, for parts commonality (I'll be able to use the same suppressor on several of my weapons, and also I can stock high wear parts common to all my AR's). The second reason is ammunition availability. 300BLK is hard to find, and expensive when you can. 5.56 and .223 are plentiful (most of the time) and normally don't cost a whole lot to shoot. 300BLK is a cool idea, just not for me.

I also want familiarity between my AR's (same trigger break, etc) which has led me to go with a 90* selector instead of a 45* and also led me to go with a Geissele SSA instead of an SSA-E... as I already have the newly selected parts on my other AR.

I decided to change from a Noveske barrel to a Rainier Ultra Match simply because I've had an amazing experience with my 14.5" Ultra Match that I have on the other AR. Beautifully made barrels, another of which will find a home on this SBR.

I also decided to change from using a Seekins MCSR rail to a BAR rail, simply because I like the looks of the BAR better, and with the accessories I intend to use and the length I've chosen, any real benefits to using the MCSR would have been negligible and would have cost more money.

That said, I've updated all the parts (they're bold in the original post) and also put the part I'd originally intended in parenthesis afterward.

As of this time, all the parts highlighted in green have been purchased, while the items in red will still need to be purchased.

The lower is currently headed back to me from Orion Arms, and should arrive Friday. I'll be building out the lower sometime Friday evening. Stay tuned!

Lower came back from Orion Arms about two weeks ahead of their stated lead time. Great business they're running, and top-notch work. Went ahead and got busy building out the lower.

Everything laid out on the table prior to starting.

Noveske Takedown & Pivot Pins. Few bucks more than a standard pair, but the quality is awesome and I like the little Noveske cross stamped into them.

Pins installed. Had to trim the detent spring for the takedown pin as the Rainier lower has a grub screw that holds the spring in place.

Turns out I didn't much care for the MIAD grip, so I replaced it today with a standard MOE. Much better now.
