It's like anything else, once you figure it out it's easy. But yeah, if it's your first time, plane or chopper, you're going to crash. You have to have someone fly with you that knows how the first dozen times or so. After that you're good to go. There are some good trainers out now that make it easy. For under 200 bucks you can get a hobby grade rc plane that is of foam construction, comes with transmitter and is RTF (ready to fly). flies slow and steady and has a horizon sensor that won't let you invert the plane. It's your best bet if you plan on taking it on alone. After that they get harder and faster, but you match the plane to your learning curve.

Choppers are a different story. More challenging. They are easier to crash and cost a lot to repair, and unlike a plane, offer NO forgiveness to a newbie. You MAY land the plane and survive it. You won't with a chopper. I could write an essay on the subject but to keep it short, there are 3 levels of choppers. You need to start with what's called a co-axial heli. It has 2 blades, one on top of the other. Don't buy a toy grade (the Source), buy a hobby grade(hobby store)

This type of chopper is self hovering. It cannot crash. It allows you to learn basic muscle memory on the maneuvering of the transmitter. It costs about 60 bucks RTF. Spend some time with it and then try the next stage.

use a simulator. thats the only way you will ever be able to fly a RC heli. Took me about 6 months of using the simulator to even be able to fly mine.

100% agreed, but, if you start off with a coax, you CAN build up to a collective pitch over time with minimal crashes, but absolutely, a sim is THE best investment you can make.

Moved here just before winter last September to go to school. First time i've gone through a winter without feeling -30 -40 degree Celsius weather lol. I think the coldest it got here was -7 and people were freaking out.

The city is definitely a nice change from Saskatoon, no rubbies everywhere you go. It's funny when I hear people say ''this is a bad area'' or ''Esquimalt is ghetto'' lol.. no, it's not.
