http://www.pcworld.com/article/255697/verizon_to_kill_unlimited_data_for_all_users_offer _shared_data_plans.html

Verizon will soon force subscribers to ditch their $30 per month unlimited data plans when they upgrade to 4G LTE phones.
The change in policy will occur after Verizon starts offering shared data plans, which will allow customers to activate as many devices as they want under a single bucket of data. "So as you come through an upgrade cycle and you upgrade, in the future, you will have go to onto the data share plan," Shammo said.

hmmm interesting...i can def see a point to it as where most people dont really use that much data. and people that have ipads or android tablets dont want to pay the additional 30-60 a month for data on them, they can add these and share their data packages to utilize them. but then at the same time a person like myself who uses anywhere from 6-15GBs (highest month was 25gbs) a month depending on what im doing.

what do you guys think? and im curious to honestly how much data you guys are using??? most people bitch and complain about it but only use 500-800MBs a month.

I have a 4GB cap and I haven't even hit 1GB during normal surfing, streaming pandora, sending gmail messages, facebook, reddit, etc.

Granted, I think they could up it to like 10-15GB a month and still not have to worry about their network imploding, but still. 99% of smart phone users will never hit their cap.

If you want to steam HD movies and use Netflix. Find wifi.

I average about 6gb

I just want to see these shared data plans because if I can either a) share a 4gb with 3 people in my family or b) share 4gb with my iphone and other 3g device (self only) or c) share with the entire family across unlimited devices then this is a win for a vast majority of people.

Now if they would only stop with the insane pic/text packages we'll be set. I'm getting tempted to dumb my unlimited plan as my immediate circle move to iphones.

25 GB???? lol wtf are you using your mobile data for.....I have yet to hit 2 GB, so I don't really give a crap and like you said it makes it more feasible to pick up a tablet at some point in the future. I only usually go over 1GB the first month I have my phone and need to DL alot of stuff.

haha! well that was the HIGHEST ive ever used. its really not that hard though.at my old job i would get there at 530am and no one would be there so there wasnt much to do, stream HBOGO for a few hours. HBOgo is a very high bandwidth app, and then the rest of the day 6-7 hours, then an hour at the gym i would listen to google music.....i did the research on google music its a HUGE bandwidth hog, one session of google music for that period of time uses about 1-1.3GBs. and if you think about that everyday, its really not that hard to hit.

i use my phone a lot for streaming, and i used to have to charge it 3-4 times a day lol.

its lower now cuz i have unlocked interwebz at work and stream from there.....but ya, thats how 25GBs gets used in a month.

I had a cap of a few gigs on my razr, then I got access to my company's wifi network. After that I lowered my cap to 300 megs and the highest I have gotten was 227... My monthly fee is only 75$

I share my fiance's plan atm. She will be getting a new iPhone, so, our total plan cost will potentially drop due to this change, since I use basically no data, she will be able to have a low cap and have 95% of it to herself.

WOW, I thought my RAZR had shitty battery life. I stream pandora all day at work and my phone will still be 33% charged by the time I go to bed.

where are you located though? and do you have LTE? if you do not and only have EVDO service your phone will last a LOT longer. i have forgotten my phone at home and it just sitting there on the counter had 20% left when i got home. (now that i deleted a bunch of bloatware its better) but ya streaming on LTE will murder your bat in a few hours.

ya my usage has gone WAY down since this new job though. I'm still avging about 6GBs on my personal cell phone. depending on my travel i use anywhere from 1-2GBs on my built in aircard (VPNing, Pandora, Sirius or whatever while driving) my blackberry prolly doesnt use that much data, prolly only a few hundred megs. only data it sees is a few BBMs and email messages. my 4G mifi though........prolly sees a few gigs a month.

luckily i dont have to worry about the last 3 devices and any of the data useage on them no matter what happens. so worst case i use my mifi all the time and connect my bionic to its wifi  :troll:

I don't have LTE connectivity at home but I'm not really on my phone much here anyway. 4G works great at work though and a lot of places I commute to in MA.

Verizon and AT&T seem to have the best service in my area, but Verizon definitely has the edge as far as coverage goes... even though my house is a total dead zone

civcmatt

AT&T and Vzw have the beat coverage anywhere. From what I have hears though Vzw rules everything west of the Mississippi ....and then AT&T and Vzw are about the same east of it. I knew a national tester that tested all markets. I only test my area

interesting....honestly doesnt seem that bad. (if you are not a huge data user. my plan would be like 300 a month for all 5 of my smartphones on my account with 10GBs of data and give you unlimited mins and messaging. where right now i pay 360. only issues is i use the 10gbs on one smartphone :/

Yea 10GB would not be enough, I'm already at 13gb and it's 1 week into my cycle lol...

I did use a lot on one day downloading arma haha

civcmatt
06-12-2012, 06:20 PM
lol that would prolly do it! i can tell a huge difference from when i go out of town. using my computer tethered makes that stuff skyrocket!

EXCellR8
06-12-2012, 07:44 PM
i tried using the shit out of my phone during this cycle and i barely managed 1GB... i've never tried tethering. is there any practical use for that?

sfd
06-12-2012, 10:34 PM
So one thing I don't get or I am missing is why people are going to pay for multiple devices for the same user? example, I would bring my own ipad, use the included hotspot from my iphone for it instead of paying for an additional connection.

That's my plan at least- my iphone will be doing a lot of tethering for my touchpad, laptop, and other devices.

do u have wifi on? i know a few people that were wondering why they used so little data and on their phone all the time....and it was connecting to their wifi unknowingly....dont think u are that clueless, but just saying lol.

and a practical use for tethering......fuck ya there is! i have a built in 4G card in my computer, a 4G mifi that provides me with a hotspot, and i also have my droid hacked to give me free tethering service. i use all 3 a TON!!! mifi hotspot gives me interwebz in the car for my iPod to pandora it. also use the mifi in hotels if the free wifi is shitty, or costs money. my internal card in my laptop is my lifeline to work when im on the go. just boot it up hit connect and VPN i have all the shared folders, interwebz, and email on the go. and the tethering feature, i use at work all the time, connect my personal macbook to my Droid and download torrents at work, or surf the web, ive used it at airports, hotels, school, in the car between classes, shit ive even used it to stream netflix on my GoogleTV when my cable went out.

i would NEVER pay for it. (work pays for the mifi and laptop, and i hacked my personal phone for it to be free) but it has saved me way more than a few times in a pinch for internet.

Yea I only used a lot cause my company sent for to training and I was board in the hotel. The hotel wifi was only giving me about 50kb/sec :fthat:

wifi hotspot on my phone was getting speeds of 600kb/sec.

On a normal month I'd say I average more like 10GB a month and thats mainly froming just streaming music and browsing the web.

just found out that if you upgrade your device after 6/28 you MUST switch to this shared data plan BS.

im up for an upgrade but i wasnt ready to buy a phone yet........shitty. maybe its time to just break down and get the Galaxy to avoid getting switched over.

Why wouldn't you want this plan? From what I heard you get unlimited minutes (maybe txts?).

civcmatt
06-23-2012, 12:50 PM
You get unlimited minutes and txts. But you have to share 10gbs of data. I will go over that by myself. My sis in law uses about 2gbs as well.

That's why....going over is shitty.

and as for the minutes and what not. my workphone has unlimited minutes, so i normally use that phone during the week. any one i call on my personal line is verizon so i only end up using like 50 mins a month. same with my dad using his work phone. my wife barely calls anyone thats not on verizon. my brother rarely uses his phone. my sister in law is the only one thatuses it a lot. we have 2100 shared mins, and between my, my wife, dad and brother we use like 300-400, so she has the rest to her self pretty much. no need for unlimited. had my plan with all of them on it for over a year and have never gone past 1900 mins. and the plan currently has unlimited text and data on all my lines. (all smartphpnes)

not gonna happen forever.

a friend of my hacked ICS onto his razr though, loves it. says the only things that dont work with it is the video cam and netflix.

didn't have to wait too much longer... phone upgraded to android 4.0.4 last night; everything seems to be working.

if i had known it was gonna take that long i would have fucking waited to buy it when the price dropped to $200!

seriously you got ICS on your phone???!!?!?!?

wtf why doesnt my Bionic have it!? its basically the same

EXCellR8
07-02-2012, 06:09 PM
check again it didn't update automatically i had to go in and check for the new software myself, but yea 4.0.4 ICS running smooth.

i am being sent a replacement phone though because i have a few dead pixels. doesn't make any sense i kept the display brightness all the way down, didn't mash the screen at all, and didn't let it get too hot. fucking thing, it's not even that old! i have full coverage on it though so they are shipping me a new one, at no cost, which should be here in a few days. i could have lived with it but considering the device is only several months old and i am paying basically $100/mo to use the service i'd prefer to have all of my pixels, even if they are microscopic lol

civcmatt
07-02-2012, 09:59 PM
Dude ill have them send me a new phone if I scratch it lol.

But ya I checked no update. I got one a few weeks ago but it wasn't ics. Apparently bionic wasn't on the list with the razr....getting the nexus for my other line so ill have ics and may've jelly bean here soon.

Might have to upgrade in the next month or so, they are switching my upgrade from every 10 months to every 20 months. Fucking blows! !!

bastards sent me a certified "like new" replacement for my Maxx... and the warranty is only good for 3 months. so basically if the same thing happens to this one after 90 days or so i'm pretty much fucked. gonna be pissed if it does. i was wondering though... what exactly causes pixels to die more rapidly; could it be that i was using a screen protector? i feel like the protector could possibly hold more heat against the screen itself and in turn burn out a pixel or two... or three!! just a theory but since i plan to use another film it crossed my mind.
